The Science Zone and City of Casper Partner to Provide Free Field Trips for All Natrona County 5th Graders

The Science Zone, in partnership with the City of Casper Wastewater Collection/Stormwater Division, is proud to announce a new initiative providing free field trips for every 5th grade student in Natrona County. This unique opportunity gives students access to The Science Zone’s two new national traveling exhibits —Ocean Bound and —How People Make Things while engaging them in hands-on science learning.

Through this partnership, 5th grade classes will not only explore the exhibits but also take part in a one-hour interactive workshop designed to connect global science concepts to local issues. Students will:

  • Learn about local watersheds and how they affect ecosystems in Wyoming and beyond.
  • Understand the impact of their everyday choices on local and global environments.
  • Experience Ocean Bound firsthand, reinforcing science concepts through interactive exploration.
  • Connect their learning to science standards in a fun, engaging way.

“We are so excited to embark on this partnership with the City of Casper to be able to offer these field trips related to such an important topic,” said Amanda Blades, Director of Education for The Science Zone. “This program helps students see how their actions matter — both in our local ecosystems and in the wider world.”

Teachers are encouraged to reserve their field trip spots now. To schedule, click the button below or call (307) 473-9663.

About the Exhibits

How People Make Things – Inspired by the factory tour segments from Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, this exhibit shows how everyday items are manufactured, with hands-on activities in molding, cutting, deforming, and assembly.

Ocean Bound – A journey through watersheds and into the ocean, where students learn how water connects us all, and how protecting rivers and streams helps protect global ecosystems.
