Casper, WY – November 25, 2025
The Science Zone is excited to announce that we have been awarded a $15,000 Spectrum Digital Education Grant in July 2025. This funding strengthens our mission to inspire curiosity, provide hands-on STEAM experiences, and expand access to digital education for youth in our community.
To celebrate, we invite families to join us for a free Family STEAM Night on Thursday, December 11, 2025, from 4–6 PM. Supported by AmeriCorps and ServeWyoming, this special event will feature Computer Science Night, showcasing programs and resources made possible through Spectrum’s generous support.
Spectrum’s Digital Education initiative awarded $1.1 million in grants to 55 nonprofits nationwide in 2025, and The Science Zone is proud to be among the recipients. This initiative reflects Spectrum’s ongoing commitment to bridging the digital divide and empowering communities through technology. Since 2017, Spectrum has invested over $11 million, supporting programs that provide digital tools, skills training, and resources to more than 188,000 community members.
"This grant allows us to reach kids who might never have had the chance to explore coding or robotics," said Education Director Amanda Blades. "We’re not just teaching technical skills, we’re building confidence, creativity, and problem-solving abilities that will serve them for life."
The Science Zone’s Code @ The Zone and Code Jr. programs give local youth the opportunity to explore coding, problem-solving, and digital creativity in a fun, engaging environment. Executive Director Brian Helling emphasized: "Technology is shaping every aspect of our world. By giving young people access to these tools early, we’re opening doors to future careers and empowering them to be creators, not just consumers."
The event will also spotlight community partners and highlight the growing demand for computer and coding careers in Wyoming. “This event will feature an interactive exhibit created by Iron Bytes, a local tech startup, installed in conjunction with the traveling Ocean Bound exhibit currently on display until January 6,” added Helling.
Code @ The Zone offers a variety of classes focused on specialized areas of technology, each with two levels: one for beginners and new students and another for experienced learners ready to advance their skills. Instructor Jess McIntyre, who leads the coding classes, shared: “When a student builds their first robot or writes their first line of code and sees it come to life, you can see the spark. That moment of discovery is what this program is all about. Thanks to the technology this grant has provided, kids can now take that spark even further, creating games and projects that reflect their own interests and ideas, turning imagination into innovation.”
